“The Gainful Employment rule is a critical tool to address low-quality career programs that frequently leave graduates with crushing debt and no meaningful career prospects. That is why I voiced strong opposition when the previous Administration repealed this rule, which would have cost taxpayers billions of dollars in federal financial aid flowing into fraudulent programs that might have otherwise closed their doors.

The final rule issued today is the strongest initiative yet to hold career programs accountable to the promises they make to their students. I applaud the Biden Administration for taking another critical step to address low-quality career programs, and I will do everything I can in Congress to preserve this critical protection for students and taxpayers.”
